Chrome Ore Powder for Green Glass Bottle Coloring
Chrome ore powder / chromite powder is the main raw material used in the production of green glass bottles. It develops color through trivalent chromium (Cr³⁺). During high-temperature melting of glass bottles, Cr³⁺ enters the glass network, selectively absorbing blue-violet light and reflecting green light, resulting in glass colors such as emerald green, yellowish green, and olive green. Chrome ore powder has the advantage of a much lower cost than pure chromium oxide green (Cr₂O₃).
I. Coloring Principle of Chrome Ore Powder
- Chrome ore powder contains chromite (FeCr₂O₄) and Cr₂O₃ (chromium trioxide).
- During high-temperature melting of glass bottles, Cr³⁺ enters the glass network, selectively absorbing blue-violet light and reflecting green light, producing emerald green, yellowish green, or olive green hues in the glass.
II. Physical and Chemical Indicators of Chrome Ore Powder for Glass Coloring
- Cr₂O₃ content: 40%–46%+ (higher content yields deeper green and higher price)
- Cr₂O₃: ≥46%
- SiO₂: ≤1.0%
- FeO/Fe₂O₃: 26%–28%
- Al₂O₃: ≤15.5%
- CaO: ≤0.3%
- MgO: ≤10%Our chrome ore powder raw material is sourced from South Africa:
- Conventional particle sizes for green glass bottle production: 200 mesh, 325 mesh, 400 mesh, 600 mesh, 800 mesh, 1200 mesh, 1600 mesh, 2500 mesh
- Dosage of chrome ore powder: 0.1%–2% (adjusted based on target color depth)
- Light green: 0.1%–0.5%
- Dark green / beer green: 0.8%–1.5%
- Dark green / bottle green: 1.5%–2.0%
- Bluish green: chrome ore + CuO (copper oxide)
- Yellowish green: chrome ore + Fe₂O₃ (iron oxide)
- Amber / brown: chrome ore + manganese / nickel / sulfurColor matching combinations:
IV. Advantages of Chrome Ore Powder as a Glass Bottle Colorant
- Low cost: 30%–50% cheaper than pure chromium oxide green.
- Stable color: UV-resistant, non-fading, and colorfast over long periods.
- High functionality: Green glass blocks UV rays, protecting beer, beverages, and cosmetics.
- Good compatibility: Fully compatible with soda-lime silicate glass (container glass).
V. Applicable Products
- Beer bottles, wine bottles, sauce bottles, olive oil bottles, pesticide bottles, green cosmetic bottles, etc.
VI. Purchasing Guidelines
- Cr₂O₃ ≥44%–46% (glass grade)
- SiO₂ ≤1.0%, low iron and low calcium content
- Particle size: 325 mesh / 400 mesh, moisture content < 0.5%
