Characteristics of Chromite Sand Relevant to Casting

Characteristics of Chromite Sand Relevant to Casting
(1) Chromite sand has excellent chilling characteristics. This characteristic does not reduce hot cracking, but can affect the temperature gradient and promote directional averaging, requiring the use of cold iron.
(2) Chromite sand is generated, so it does not react with other metal oxides, and it is not wetted by molten steel. Steel castings can use chromite sand very successfully. If the mold is normally painted and the silica content is low, there will be no fayalite reaction.

(3) The linear expansion of chromite sand is small, and linear expansion is a factor that may cause sand inclusion in castings, so it may be used to mix large castings
(4) Chromite sand evaporates through fine particles, simultaneously exerting quenching effect and residual heat intensity, eliminating metal penetration
(5) Chromium-plated iron ore is universal and can be used with various buffers.
(6) Chromite sand has such adverse effects on health as silica-free sand.
