Properties of chromite sands related to foundry
(1) Iron ore has excellent cold characteristics, and this characteristic does not reduce thermal energy and affect the temperature gradient to solidify without using cold iron.
(2) Iron ore is inert and thus does not react with other metal compounds and it is not affected by water. Parts can be very successful using chromite sand. If the mold is normally painted and the silica content is low, there will be no olivine reaction.
(3) The linear expansion of chromite is small, and expansion is a factor that may cause sand inclusion castings. Therefore it may be used to mix green sand molds for large castings.
