Types and Uses of Chromite Sand
chromite sand (chromite concentrate) is primarily classified according to its chemical composition and intended use:
Metallurgical Grade:
Use: This is the primary use, used in the production of ferrochrome.
Chemical Grade:
Use: Used in the production of chromium chemicals such as sodium dichromate and chromic acid
Refractory & Foundry Grade:
Applications:
Refractory materials: Used in the manufacture of magnesia-chrome bricks and chrome-magnesia bricks used in stainless steel production due to their high melting point, excellent corrosion resistance, and stability.
Foundry sand: In the foundry industry, chrome sand is used as facing sand or specialty molding sand for large steel castings (such as engine blocks and marine propellers) due to its excellent thermal conductivity, low thermal expansion, and resistance to metal permeation.
Common export sizes of chromite sand: AFS35-40, AFS40-45, AFS45-50, AFS45-55, AFS50-55, AFS55-60
