What color does chromite powder develop as a colorant for glass bottles?

2. Color Development Mechanism

Cr³⁺ contained in chromite powder naturally delivers emerald green, yet associated Fe²⁺/Fe³⁺ ions introduce yellow and brown undertones. The superimposed shades turn dull and greyish, forming the widely adopted industrial olive green. Even with high-purity, low-iron chromite powder, the color can only be slightly brightened, never reaching the saturation level of pure synthetic chromium oxide green.

3. Practical Industrial Application

99% of commercial beer bottles and light-blocking green beverage bottles on the market adopt chromite powder as colorant, resulting in uniform olive green series shades. Emerald green glass bottles are extremely rare; they are mostly crafted from pure synthetic chromium oxide green for high-end glassware instead of chromite powder.
